It's difficult to find a silver lining in Good Magic's disappointing third in the Fountain of Youth. Last year's champion 2-year-old male established perfect early striking position in his first start since winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, but had nothing to offer when asked late on the far turn. I mean, he was empty.
If Good Magic is to be a real factor in the Kentucky Derby picture, he must improve a ton off this "performance," and he only has time for one more start to do that. In the meantime, the Derby looks as wide open for the taking as can be.
