Take the One O One, a well-beaten third in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes last September, won an allowance race with a $50,000 claiming option for California-breds at 6 1-2 furlongs in Sunday's fourth race.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Take the One O One ($4.80) led throughout to hold off a sustained threat from 4-5 favorite Surfing Star. Take the One O One was timed in 1:15.82 in his first start since the FrontRunner.
The race could be a prep for the $200,000 Echo Eddie Stakes for California-bred 3-year-olds at 6 1-2 furlongs on April 7, on the undercard of the Santa Anita Derby. Trainer Brian Koriner did not commit to that race, however.
"We could look at that," Koriner said in the winner's circle. "You never know what horizons are out there."
Take the One O One has won 2 of 5 starts for owner Samantha Siegel. The colt was a maiden race winner against California-breds at six furlongs at Del Mar last August in his second start.
