Although next Saturday's Grade 3, $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway is shaping up to lack starpower, it is expected to offer a deep, competitive field. A full gate of 12 is anticipated with as many as 16 horses currently being considered for it, according to the Turfway racing office.
Some of the most prominent horses likely to run include Archaggelos, winner of the Grade 3 Grey last fall at Woodbine; Cash Call Kitten, a winner of two starts; California Derby winner Choo Choo; graded stakes placed Hollywood Star; John Battaglia winner Magicalmeister; Mugaritz, who ran second in the Cal Derby and fourth in the El Camino Real; Pony Up, a twice stakes-placed turf horse this winter in Florida; Fair Grounds allowance winner Ride a Comet; and Battaglia runner-up Sky Promise.
The supporting card will include four other stakes, including the Grade 3, $100,000 Bourbonette for 3-year-old fillies and a revival of once-prestigious Kentucky Cup Classic.
Daily Racing Form will have more on these races beginning in Thursday's print edition of DRF (online Monday), and continuing thru raceday.
