Irish trainer Gordon Elliott's stable is in brilliant form, winning the first two races at Cheltenham on Thursday. Elliott has won five races this week at the four-day meeting, which began on Tuesday and runs through Friday.
The day began with Shattered Love winning the Grade 1 JLT Novices' Chase at 2 1-2 miles by seven lengths over 3-1 favorite Terrefort. Benatar (10-1) finished third, 12 lengths behind the winner.
Shattered Love, a 7-year-old mare by Yeats, has won 9 of 15 starts. She won the Grade 1 Nevills Hotel Novice Chase in Ireland at Christmastime, and has won five of six starts over fences. The JLT Novices' Chase was worth $208,500, her richest win.
Delta Work (6-1) won the $139,000 Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle at three miles by a nose, or a short head, over Glencoe (9-2 favorite), also trained by Elliott.
Shattered Love and Delta Work are owned by Giggingstown House Stud, which has four wins this week.
Elliott and fellow Irish trainer Willie Mullins each have five wins this week, with plenty of opportunities to add to that in coming days. Nicky Henderson is the leading English trainer with two wins. There will be considerable movement on this list in the next three hours.
