Mitchell Murrill has let his last two turf mounts today at Fair Grounds just run out to lead. It's worked well. Throwacross romped and paid $23.60 in race 4, and Diamondmaze just set a decent pace but never really was threatened at odds of 15/1 in just-completed race 6. In between, Murrill went wire to wire in a one-mile dirt claime with Hansen's Holiday. Three in a row isn't bad, and neither has this meet been for Murrill, who has put together a solid Fair Grounds season without having one major client backing him.
Twenty Four Seven came from mid-pack to win the other turf race run so far today, race 2, but the 10/1 pace-setter in thart race also held second, and the turf-course profile is apparently something we should keep in mind at the moment.
Neil Pessin trains Diamondmaze, who was slyly spotted at a very realistic level coming back from a long layoff. It was the second such recent winner at Fair Grounds for Pessin, who was quiet much of this meet.
