The Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association on Friday started a second GoFundMe page to benefit the family of Jose Luis Flores, the jockey who died Thursday of injuries he suffered in a Monday spill at Parx Racing.
On Thursday, Maria Remedio, a close friend of Flores' wife, Joanne McDaid-Flores, started a GoFundMe page for the family.
Mike Ballezzi, executive director of the PTHA, started the horsemen's page, which can be accessed at this link.
As of 7:30 p.m. Friday, the PTHA site had raised $15,760 of its $30,000 goal.
Remedio's fund-raising page can be accessed at this link. It has so far raised $18,106 of its $30,000 goal.
Both web site links can be accessed in an obituary for Flores at DRF.com
While it is somewhat confusing to have two sites raising money for the same purpose, it is a no-harm, no-foul situation since all of the money will go to the Flores family, which includes 7-year-old Julian and two grown children, Juan and Junior.
