There's a $251K carryover in the early pick five at Santa Anita. Let's have a little fun and try and hit it with a modest caveman ticket.
Race 1 is one of the two off-the-turf races in the seqence. I'm using Comes the Dream, Eagle Scream and Just Kidding as they just look best suited to me to handle the dirt and/or the nine furlong distance.
Once On Whiskey looks like a bingo free space to me in race 2. He finished like a wild horse in his debut after being far back early and galloped out a mile in front. He gets a little more distance, and with the way he's worked since, I expect him to be more involved early.
I could hit the all button in race 3 because any of the six entered can win. But I won't. I'll go with Late 'n Left off the interesting change in running style last time, the streaking Fair Regis, who is way up in class but who is much improved, and the second-off-a-layoff Powder, who looks like the best speed horse.
Race 4 is the other off-the-turf race. I think this race is wide open, and I'm going seven deep (the ones I'm using are noted below) in the hopes of getting a price home.
Race 5, the last leg in the sequence, is the Santa Monica. Selcourt is a Weekend Warrior play for me as I think she controls the pace. But in this situation, I also must include the high class Paradise Woods because she might just be plain better than this field.
Here's the play, which totals $63:
