Audible, the Holy Bull winner, drew post 8 and was installed as the 9-5 morning line favorite in a field of nine entered Wednesday for Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park.
Audible, a New York-bred son of Into Mischief, has won his last three races for trainer Todd Pletcher and the ownership group of WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, SF Racing, International Ltd., and Starlight Racing.
Pletcher has won the Florida Derby four times including last year with Always Dreaming who went on to win the Kentucky Derby. Nyquist, the 2016 Florida Derby winner, also went on to win the Kentucky Derby.
John Velazquez, also a four-time Florida Derby winner, has the mount on Audible.
The Florida Derby field also includes Promises Fulfilled, winner of the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, Strike Power, the Swale winner and Fountain of Youth runner-up and Catholic Boy, winner of the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes. It was announced on Wednesday that Siena Farm has bought part interest of Catholic Boy, also owned by Robert LaPenta and Sol Kumin’s Madaket Stables.
