Perfect 20-cent tickets in the mandatory disbursement of the Rainbow 6 on Saturday at Gulfstream Park each paid $9,018 after AUDIBLE completed the sequence by winning the Florida Derby as the 8-5 favorite.
The six-race Rainbow spanned races 9-14 and began with a $31.60 winner, Outback Bob -- but after that, it was pretty chalky. The winning numbers were 3-9-2-2-3-8, with their respective odds being 14-1, 2-1(f), 3-1, 5-2, 2-1, and 8-5(f). Audible was the lowest will-pay heading into the R14 finale.
New bets Saturday into the Rainbow 6 totaled a record $16,583,425, which was in addition to the $4.75 million already accrued in the jackpot over the previous 40 racing days. That means more than $21 million was paid out (not counting takeout on the new wagers today).
The Saturday handle exceeds the prior Gulfstream record for a single-pool handle set Jan. 28, when $15,788,225 was added to a carryover jackpot of nearly $4 million in an earlier mandatory disbursement of the Rainbow 6.
There are no consolation payoffs in the Rainbow 6.
Closing day of the four-month championship meet at Gulfstream is Sunday, with action at the six-month spring-summer meet starting Thursday.
