Here's an update on the field for Saturday's Grade 2 Wood Memorial, post positions for which will be drawn tomorrow.
After Machismo drew post 13 on Tuesday for Saturday's Blue Grass, owner Ron Paolucci, via text, said that "as long as he eats up today and is good in morning we go to New York."
Machismo won a maiden race by 11 1-2 lengths at Gulfstream on Feb. 3 and then finished fourth in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth.
On Monday, colleague Jay Privman reported that Restoring Hope would be coming to New York for the Wood. Restoring Hope won a maiden race on Feb. 2 at Santa Anita. Heartfullofstars finished fourth to Restoring Hope that day and came back on March 3 to win his maiden. Heartfullofstars is coming to the Wood and will be ridden by Dylan Davis.
Also, waiting on a decision from the connections of National Flag to decide their plans. Last week, trainer Todd Pletcher mentioned to me he was going to run him in the Lexington at Keeneland on April 14. Now, I understand he may be coming to Aqueduct for either the Wood or the Bay Shore.
So, the Wood field looks like this: Enticed (Junior Alvarado), Evaluator (Kendrick Carmouche), Firenze Fire (Manny Franco), Heartfullofstars (Dylan Davis), King Zachary (Robby Albarado), Machismo (Jacob Radosevich), Old Time Revival (Jeremy Rose), Restoring Hope (Flavien Prat), and Vino Rosso (John Velazquez). American Lincoln is possible.
Field will be finalized Wednesday.
