Blackjackcat, third in the Breeders' Cup Mile last November, can win his first stakes since October in the upcoming Grade 3 American Stakes at a mile on turf.
Bettors expect a winning performance. With 19 minutes to post, Blackjackcat (5) is the even-money favorite. Trained by Mark Glatt, Blackjackcat has started once this year, finishing a quiet fifth in the Grade 3 Thunder Road Stakes at a mile on turf on Feb. 10. Following that race, Glatt gave Blackjackcat a brief rest before resuming training. Earlier this week, he spoke highly of Blackjackcat's recent training.
The $100,000 American Stakes has a field of seven. There is solid support for Kenjisstorm (9) who returned from a layoff of more than eight months to win an alowance race with a $75,000 claiming option on March 29. The optional claimer was Kenjisstorm's first start since undergoing throat surgery last year, trainer Phil D'Amato said.
