Apprentice Wes Hamilton won races 1 and 3 at Laurel Park on Friday to tie Jorge Vargas Jr. for the lead in the jockey standings.
Vargas, who is riding his first full meet in Maryland, has led for almost the entire season. The Laurel meet began Jan. 1 and concludes May 6. After today, there are six more cards at the meet.
Hamilton has been on a roll and is 21 for 104 since March 16. Vargas is 9 for 85 during that time span.
Hamilton and Vargas both have 44 wins at the stand. Sheldon Russell is in third with 27 wins.
Hamilton won race 1 aboard Bad Angle Burke ($4) for trainer Linda Albert and race 3 on Greely's Striker ($6.60) for Dale Capuano.
