Two-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Doug O'Neill imitated the final drill for his 2016 hero Nyquist when sending Blended Citizen out for a mile work in advance of a hoped-for start in the Run for the Roses. The Ruby winner worked the mile in 1:41.60 on Saturday morning at Keeneland, getting the best of workmate Shane Zain (1:42).
Blended Citizen needs a defection to make the Kentucky Derby field, as he currently sits 21st on the points list. His connections have expressed interest in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, with the latter a major target for the colt, who is bred to go long.
Shane Zain is possible for the Pat Day Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard.
