Generally speaking, business as usual Wednesday morning for trainer Todd Pletcher's quartet of Kentucky Derby entrants, with Audible, Magnum Moon, Noble Indy, and Vino Rosso all galloping 1 3/8 miles just as they did Monday and Tuesday.
Noble Indy did train in blinkers for the first time since he breezed Friday, but Pletcher said that was because the colt, who has proven difficult in the starting gate at times, had another gate-schooling session Wednesday. Pletcher fitted him with blinkers to fully simulate the experience Noble Indy will have when he enters the starting gate for the Derby.
Pletcher said he was pleased with how all four horses went through their moderately paced gallops Wednesday. Vino Rosso has been the most exuberant trainer of the group and had a more subdued session today, but Pletcher reasonably attributed that to a serious warming trend in Louisville this week.
"I think horses were a little more quiet today with the change in the weather yesterday," he said. "This definitely was the warmest morning we’ve had. It went from 39 the other day to to 67 when I got in the car in the morning. You could sense a little energy change in the horses."
Audible and Noble Indy paddock-schooled without incident Tuesday and all four Derby horses will school in the paddock during the 5th race on Churchill's card Wednesday afternoon.
