After My Boy Jack took a jog around Churchill Downs this morning, trainer Keith Desormeaux took over the shank to walk the colt cool and hold him for his bath, trying to keep his extremely fit colt calm and gauge his excitement level as the energy on the backstretch builds daily.
"Jack is right on that edge. He's pretty fired up, but he remains in control at this point," Desormeaux said. "I don't do that every day, but he's a little bit more excitable than usual ... we are called horsemen because we're supposed to know the personalities and traits of our horse and react to them and calm them down, if I can. I like to get my hands on them and be a leader, be there to comfort them."
My Boy Jack will school with the second race today, and is also likely to school tomorrow.
"We're gonna do our best to acclimate him to this throng of people he's gonna see on Saturday," Desormeaux said. "[But] I don't think we can match that by schooling today or tomorrow."
