Gary Stevens won his first race in New York since June 7, 2014 in the first race at Belmont, guiding the 2-year-old filly Mae Never No to a debut victory for trainer Wesley Ward.
Mae Never No, paid $17, while defeating her 4-5 favored stablemate Abyssinian by about 1 1/4 lengths. It was about eight lengths back to Three Birds in third.
The $2 Ward-trained exacta paid $32.40 in the six-horse field.
The win was Stevens' first in New York since June 7, 2014 - Belmont Stakes Day - when he won an optional claimer on Ghurair.
Ward has two others 2-year-olds entered in race 4, a five-furlong turf sprint for fillies. Stevens rides Hot Honey. Albin Jimenez, who rode Abyssinian in race 1, will be aboard Our Passion for Ward.
Ward is 12 for 21 with his 2-year-olds since April 6 despote running multiple horses in a number of races.
