Weiland lit up the tote in winning the Kentucky Thursday's Kentucky Juvenile at Churchill Downs, paying $41.40 as an overlooked runner coming off a fifth-place finish in his only other start.
He outran fellow maiden Myhotrodlincoln, trading bumps with him in the stretch - though the Kentucky stewards, as is their custom, chose to never hang the inquiry sign after no claim of foul. The contact did appear to be caused by both horses.
Due credit to the winner, but this seemed a suspect field for a stake - with favored Luv This Lifestyle (fourth) being overbet off trainer Wesley Ward's success and with the race losing Shangaied Roo to a scratch on the way to the gate.
The winner, a son of Yes It's True owned and trained by John Ennis, raced five furlongs in 59.32 seconds under Carlos Villasana.
