MCCRAKEN, away from the races since last October's Lafayette Stakes, made a successful 4-year-old debut, rallying from last under Brian Hernandez to win a high-class allowance race by about a half-length over Behavioral Bias.
The pace was swift, as they went a half-mile in 44.65 seconds, and McCraken was last early along with Dazzling Gem. McCraken was able to save ground around the turn, then tipped wide in the lane and outfinished Dazzling Gem who was even wider under Joel Rosario.
McCraken (5.60) ran a mile in 1:35.20.
Right after this race, the main track was downgraded to muddy and sealed
Having spoken to trainer Ian Wilkes earlier this week, McCraken is likely headed to the Grade 1 Met Mile on the June 9 Belmont Stakes Day card.
While 2017 Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming was awful in yesterday's Alysheba Stakes, it's been a pretty good day for the also-rans in that Derby. Lookin At Lee, second to Always Dreaming, and Sonneteer, 16th in last year's Derby, finished 1-2 in an allowance race earlier on the card.
