Move Over, imported fom England last fall, won for the first time in the United States in an allowance race for 3-year-olds on the hillside turf course in Thursday's fifth race, a victory achieved after a moment of pre-race drama.
Move Over broke through the gate before the start under jockey Tyler Baze and ran about a quarter-mile down the hillside course before he was corraled by an outrider and brought back to the start. After a veterinary inspection, Move Over was allowed to race.
The colt was fifth on the hillside and rallied in the final quarter-mile to win by a nose over 2-1 favorite Calexman. Move Over ($7.20) ran about 6 1-2 furlongs on turf in 1:13.80.
"He barely touched the front door and they came open," Baze saiid. "I'm glad they didn't scratch him. He didn't hurt himself."
Owned by Pete and Kosta Hronis, Move Over was a troubled third in the Singletary Stakes at a mile on turf on May 5. Trainer John Sadler said Move Over will be pointed for the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes on July 18, the opening day of Del Mar's summer meeting.
