Shanghai Glory survived a stretch bid from Seam to cross the wire first in Belmont's third race, a maiden $20,000 claimer, and then survived an inquiry to remain on top.
The inquiry stemmed from Shanghai Glory drifting out just inside the eighth pole, making contact with Seam, who had been threatening at the point. The two then separated, with Shanghai Glory ($4.50) moving inside and Seam going outside, and the former maintained a slight edge to the wire, winning by about half length under Joel Rosario.
The contact appeared minor, but given the close margin of victory the incident obviously warranted examination by the stewards.
