Girls Know Best dueled longshot Victoria's Fire into defeat after three furlongs, opened up a sizeable advantage at mid-stretch, and cruised home about two lengths best on Saturday at Pimlico in the $100,000 The Very One Stakes for older females. The five-furlong race was moved to the main track owing to the torrential rain this week that caused all but one grass race Saturday to move to the main track.
Girls Know Best, the even-money favorite, was part of an opening quarter in 21.74 seconds, was on top after a half in 44.52 seconds, and completed five furlongs on the sloppy track in 57 seconds flat.
Pretty Perfection rallied down the center of the track for second, with Anna's Bandit finishing third.
Eight went to the post after six of the original 14 were scratched when the race moved to the main track.
Javier Castellano rode Girls Know Best for trainer Eddie Kenneally. The win was her ninth in 15 starts. She is 4 for 6 since being claimed by Kenneally and co-owner Brian Chenvert for $40,000 last fall at Keeneland.
