Lane 1 and firm for the turf on a hot/humid day.
Reigning Canadian champion female grasser Starship Jubilee should be favored in the G2 Nassau Stakes but there are some viable alternatives to her in the one-mile turf tilt. The gifted comebacker Ghostly Presence captured a tough division of the Tropical Park Oaks in December at Gulfstream and has been working up a storm for the red-hot Roger Attfield barn.
Grizzel was beaten about three lengths in each of her winter outings in Gulfstream stakes, and trainer Mike Doyle sent her out to win the G3 Selene here last spring. Trainer Mark Casse, who scratched Jennifer Lynnette, sends out the European import Bletchley.
Leading trainer Norm McKnight doubled up yesterday, bringing his record at the meet to an incredible 25 for 46, or 54 percent. He sends out the hard-knocking favorites Unseen Angels in the fifth, and Best Bard in the sixth. Both are starting for the first time this year.
The Japanese bug riders Kazushi Kimura and Daisuke Fukumoto will line up side-by-side in the second. It will be the first mount for the 10-pounder Kimura, who competes without a whip for now.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is nearly $8K.
