Jockey Richard Eramia appeared to have escaped serious injury in a one-horse spill in the fourth race Sunday at Lone Star Park. His mount, Bird Orr Brady, went down at the top of the stretch.
Eramia was given a ride back to the winner's circle area in the track ambulance and when he came out of the back and walked toward the jockeys' room he received applause from the ontrack crowd.
UPDATE: Bird Orr Brady got up at one point after the spill, but was ultimately euthanized on the track, according to the stewards. The stewards said he sustained a fracture in his left foreleg.
UPDATE: Eramia will not ride the upcoming fifth race, but plans to ride the rest of his mounts on the card, according to an announcement at Lone Star. Eddie Martin, Jr., will ride Eramia's upcoming mount, Whole Lotta Luck.
