Touching Rainbows will have his stakes debut in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at seven furlongs on June 23 after a hard-fought win in an allowance race with a $75,000 claiming option in Friday's third race at six furlongs.
Touching Rainbows rallied three-wide to take a narrow lead in early stretch before facing a stretch-long challenge from Moe Candy. Touching Rainbow appeared to lose the lead in the final furlong, but was alongside Moe Candy and had his nose in front at the line - and only his nose.
Touching Rainbows ($3.20) ran six furlongs in 1:09.89. Owned by KM Racing Enterprise, the 5-year-old Touching Rainbows has won 6 of 12 starts in the last 25 months. He was initially trained by Mike Puype for four starts before being claimed for $25,000 by Ricky Agarie.
Agarie ran Touching Rainbow twice before the gedling was given a rest and turned over to current trainer Phil D'Amato last summer. Touching Rainbows has won four consecutive optional claimers.
