Races such as Saturday's first race at Santa Anita will make the apprentice Heriberto Figueroa a better jockey - hopefully.

Figueroa rode 10-1 Spend It, who raced in traffic in early stretch and was not clear until the final sixteenth when the gelding closed to finish fourth, 10 1-4 lengths behind winner Famous Rock Star.

Figueroa, who began riding here earlier this spring, got plenty of run from Spend It in the last furlong, and could have been second with a better trip.

Famous Rock Star ($5) was favored and drew off to win the $50,000 claiming race for maidens at a mile on turf by 8 1-4 lengths.
