Catholic Boy set the pace then came on again after being headed and seemingly left in the wake of 1/5 favorite Analyze It in mid-stretch to register a well deserved neck victory in Saturday's Grade 3 Pennine Ridge. Catholic Boy had to withstand a stewards' inquiry and claim of foul lodged by jockey Jose Ortiz aboard Analyze It alleging interference in the stretch. The win was the second on the day for trainer Jonathan Thomas and the sixth from his last nine starters at Belmont and Gulfstream Park. The victory was the third on the card for jockey Javier Castellano.
Catholic Boy, a son of More Than Ready, was making his first start since finishing a disappointing fourth and subsequently being found to have bled during the running of the Grade 1 Florida Derby nine weeks earlier. Catholic Boy is owned by Robert LaPenta and Madaket Stables. He paid $10.80.
The setback was the first in four career starts for Analyze It, who had won his first three outings including a pair of Grade 3 stakes by a combined 15 3/4 lengths.
