The first-time starter Stirred won a maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies in Thursday's third race at five furlongs in a manner suggesting she could be a filly to follow this summer.
Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Stirred ($13.40) finished 1 1-4 lengths in front of 5-1 Bizwhacks, a first-time starter by Fed Biz. Stirred ran five furlongs in 59.30 seconds.
Stirred, by Shakin It Up, is owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and trained by Michael McCarthy. The filly was purchased for $150,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sale of 2-year-olds in-training in March.
Courteous, the 8-5 favorite, had a rough trip. She was pinched at the start, made progress from the back of the field on the turn under jockey Mike Smith and finished fifth of eight.
