Mr Vargas led throughout Sunday's eighth race, an allowance race with a $40,000 claiming option, to remain unbeaten in two career starts at his home track.

Trained at Los Al by Brian Koriner, Mr Vargas ($8.60) won by 2 1-2 lengths over 7-5 favorite McKale. Mr Vargas ran 5 1-2 furlongs in 1:02.67. The 4-year-old gelding, by Midshipman, is owned by Samantha Siegel.

Mr Vargas won a maiden race here last September. Sunday's race was the first start for Mr Vargas since November after he was sidelined by inury.
