Here are the Beyer Speed Figures initially assigned to the stakes winners Friday night at Prairie Meadows.
Remembering Rita (Prairie Meadows Cornhusker) - 95
High North (Iowa Derby) - 81
Done Deal (Iowa Sprint) - 94
Substitution (Iowa Stallion Futurity) - 61
The 95 for Remembering Rita isn't bad considering the glacial early pace in the Cornhusker, and the 61 for an early-June Iowa-bred 2-year-old, Substitution, is solid, too. But 81 for the Iowa Derby? Not a good race, and the visual impression, to me, aligns with the low number.
