Sully's Dream, a starter in the Modesty Handicap, went wrong midway around the far turn, was pulled up, and had to be vanned off the course. The 4-year-old filly suffered a basal sesamoid fracture in her right front-leg, according to Dr. Kent Martin, the Arlington track veterinarian. That's a serious injury but the fracture, Martin said, appeared to be relatively simple and while Sully's Dream probably won't race again, surgery to insert a stabilizing screw in the joint should make her pasture sound.
Trained by John Ortiz for a partnership, Sully's Dream, a daughter of Colonel John and the First Samurai mare Karate Gal, is a six-time winner of multiple listed turf-route stakes.
