Victress will try to defend her title in the $50,000 Monashee Handicap. She hasn't raced since she went unplaced in the Grade 3 Red Carpet at Del Mar on Nov. 23. In her win last year she was also coming off a lengthy layoff after going unplaced in a $62,500 optioanal claiming race on turf at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred worked a sharp half-mile last Sunday, and trainer Rob Gilker appears to have her primed for another strong effort coming off the bench.
