After a blip on the radar in her last start, a fourth place finish in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff decided over a wet/fast track at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby day, Finley'sluckycharm got back on the right track when drawing off to a popular 2 1/4 length victory over a slow starting Vertical Oak in the $200,000, Grade 2 Honorable Miss. It was another 9 lengths further back to third place finisher Kirby's Penny in a scratch reduced field of just five older fillies and mares.
Brian Hernandez Jr. took his regular seat aboard Finley'sluckycharm, a 5-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy, who is trained by Bret Calhoun for owner Carl Moore. The win was the 11th in 17 starts for Finley'sluckycharm and made amends for her second place finish as the even money favorite in the 2017 Honorable Miss.
Finley'sluckycharm completed six furlongs over a fast track in 1:09.48 and paid $3.90.
