No journeyman has been in greater demand at this meeting than jockey Tyler Baze.
And the results show.
Through Thursday's third race, Baze has ridden 81 races, equaling the most number of mounts at the meeting with apprentice Assael Espinoza. Baze ranks third in the standings with 13 wins, two more than Espinoza. They trail leader Flavien Prat, who has 18 wins.
Baze won the second race on Monterey Shale ($13.80) and could have more winners this afternoon with two more mounts - Giant Influence (1) in the fourth race, and Take a Leap in the fifth.
Giant Influence drew the rail in an optional claimer at a mile with an evenly-matched race. Giant Influence was second against a similar field on July 18 finishing behind Shivermetimbers, who is bound for a stakes later this month.
