Siculo, an Arizona-bred gelding purchased for $2,000 as a yearling, is the early favorite to win his debut in Thursday's sixth race, a $32,000 claimer for maidens at 5 1-2 furlongs.
With 19 minutes to post, Siculo (4) is 2-1 from an 8-1 price on the morning-line. Trained by Molly Pearson, Siculo has worked well for his debut, notably a half-mile in 47.80 seconds from the gate on Aug. 1.
Pearson has a solid record with first-time starters, winning at a 15 percent rate.
