Wonder Gadot, winner of the first two legs of Canada's Triple Crown, worked a half-mile in 48.07 seconds over Saratoga's main track early Friday morning in preparation for a start in the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 25.
The first worker, at 5:45 a.m., Wonder Gadot went off her first eighth in 13.00 seconds and then picked it up in a hurry. She went the quarter in 24.18 seconds then came home under minimal urging in 23.83 seconds. I took her out five furlongs in 1:00.91, six furlongs in 1:14.86 and seven eighths in 1:29.39.
Wonder Gadot, a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro trained by Mark Casse for Gary Barber, is seeking to become the first filly to win the Travers since Lady Rotha in 1915. She wil be the first filly to start in the Travers since Davona Dale finished fourth as the favorite in 1979.
