Haven't seen many progeny of Mark Valeski but the first-time starter Network Effect ($19.20) became the second winner of this meet by that sire, who as a racehorse won the Grade 3 Peter Pan at 3 and the Grade 2 Mineshaft at 4.
This is Mark Valeski's first crop of runners.
Earlier this meet, Backtohisroots won a $50,000 claimer for Joe Sharp.
Network Effect, despite his high-profile connections -- Klaravich Stables, Chad Brown and Javier Castellano -- was sent off at 8-1. He ran down Derby Date, a second-time starter for D. Wayne Lukas.
Track has sped up some after it was harrowed -- it had been backracked earlier -- as they ran seven furlongs in 1:24.62 one race after the 4-year-old Greek Alphabet ran the same distance in 1:23.86. Earlier on the card, Unionizer won a seven-furlong maiden race for 2-year-olds in 1:26.29 and Cairo Cat won a 2-year-old maiden race originally scheduled for the turf but run on the dirt in 1:26.58.
As I type this, the main track is being sealed as races 7 and 8 are going to be run on the turf.
In fact, there is only one more dirt race remaining on the card -- race 9.
