Accelerate, the ante-post favorite for the Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic next Saturday at Del Mar, worked seven furlongs this morning in 1:26. He went by himself, with assistant trainer Juan Leyva aboard, shortly after 6:30 a.m.
His trainer, John Sadler, said he had Accelerate in 1:26.40, and going out one mile in 1:39.80.
"A very good work on a really dead track," Sadler said.
"A good work, a stamina-building work," Sadler called it.
Sadler said he would only enter Accelerate in the race. He said he would not enter San Diego winner Catalina Cruiser.
"Enter one, keep it simple," he said.
Entries for the Pacific Classic are due Tuesday, and posts will be drawn Tuesday early evening.
Sadler said Catalina Cruiser is under consideration for either the Pat O'Brien here on Aug. 25, or the Woodward at Saratoga on Sept. 1. The Pat O'Brien is at seven furlongs, but is a "Win and You're In" for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, which is the year-end target for Catalina Cruiser.
