Eurico Da Silva won four of the first five races on the card. He rides the early even-money favorite, Melmich, who's trying to win the G3 Seagram Cup for the second year in a row.

All the protagonists in the six-horse field looked good in the paddock, most notably the liver chestnut Gigantic Breeze, who was a square 7-1 in the early betting.
