Lewisfield sprinted clear early in the seven-furlong Polynesian Stakes at Laurel Park on Sunday but Laki moved up to his outside going to the far turn and took it to the 3-5 favorite.
Laki gained the lead in upper stretch while well out in the track. At the furlong pole, jockey Arnaldo Bocachica took Lewisfield out in the track to get a better look at Laki and he steadily came on again to win by a head or a neck.
But Lewisfield made contact with Laki nearing the finish under a left-handed whip from Bocachica. The stewards conducted an inquiry, jockey Horacio Karamanos aboard Laki lodged an objection, and Laki was placed first.
He paid $16.60 in the six-horse field.
The change in order of finish puts Laki on top in the MATCH Series dirt-sprint division with 23 points. Lewisfield, who came into the race in front, has 19 points.
Laki also holds a one-point lead in the MATCH overall championship point standings over Page McKenney.
