Del Mar: At 6-1, Tig Tog is worth a try in first

Tig Tog (4) will have her American debut, and ninth start, in a maiden race at a mile in Friday's first race. The race was written for fillies and mares but has drawn seven 3-year-old filliles.

Tig Tog is 6-1 on the morning-line, a price that seems fair considering her English form. Now trained by Paddy Gallagher, Tig Tog was third in two starts in the spring, races against winners.

Tig Tog was beaten 1 1-2 lengths in a handicap at a mile and 70 yards on turf at Nottingham on May 1. While the race did not draw a tough field (the other six runners have combined to win two subsequent races), Tig Tog did run fairly well considering she raced in traffic in the final quarter-mile.

The Nottingham race was run on soft turf. Last year, Tig Tog was second by a head in a race for 2-year-olds at Newbury on good-to-firm ground. She'll get firm ground against six rivals in Friday's first race.
