A less humid, partly cloudy day for the 11-race Breeders' Stakes card. Lane 1 and yielding for the turf, which received lots of rain yesterday.
Queen's Plate and Prince of Wales runner-up Aheadbyacentury is trying the turf for the first time in the 12-furlong Breeders', as the 5-2 morning line favorite. He doesn't have much grass breeding, and is worth trying to beat, especially when you consider the trying conditions he competed under in the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown.
The proven grasser Neepawa should be lower than his 6-1 morning line price. His recent third in the nine-furlong Toronto Cup Stakes over a course labeled as good.
Say the Word captured a mile and three-sixteenth allowance the last time he tried the turf in an April 27 allowance at Keeneland. He was a close second on yielding ground at Laurel in November, and is probably at his best over firm turf.
Recent maiden breaker Hot Cash is a ridiculously low 7-2 on the line, and the presence of the red-hot leading rider, Eurico da Silva, should ensure that she goes postward as an underlay. Like Hot Cash, the maiden Real Dude is owned by Stronach Stable. Both look like they could run all day, but they seem outclassed.
The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover is $342K.
