Fatale Bere won her third stakes in the last year in Saturday's Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks with a late rally that carried her to the front in the final strides.
Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Fatale Bere ($) caught 9-5 favorite Ollie's Candy to win the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks by a neck. Fatale Bere ran 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:48.14.
Ollie's Candy finished two lengths clear of 16-1 Californiagoldrush. Ms Bad Behavior, who led briefly on the turn, finished fourth, followed by Colonia, Paved, Movie Moment, Fool's Paradise, Ms Peintour, So Hi Society, Animosity and Streetwithnoname.
Animosity set the pace, but ducked in suddenly near the three-eighths pole, brushing the rail. She lost her action and dropped back through the field.
The victory was the first Grade 1 win for trainer Leonard Powell. Fatale Bere, a French-bred by Pedro the Great, races for Gerald Benowitz, Head of Plains Partners, Mark Mathiesen and Mathilde Powell.
