Now that Travers weekend at Saratoga is here, some folks might be wondering how the Saratoga main track has been playing.
Right off the bat, it must be noted that there are fewer more subjective things than calling tracks trends or biases. What I see as a strong bias might be your nothing, or visa versa.
That said, I believe there have been several days this month at Saratoga which featured main tracks that were either favored or outright biased to some particular running style or path.
For what it’s worth, after a three day spell from 8/4 through 8/6 when the inside was not the place to be, there were either speed favoring or speed biased surfaces on 8/10, 8/12, 8/18, 8/19, and this past Wednesday, 8/22.
Notably, i thought Saratoga’s main track played entirely fairly yesterday (Thursday). And with Saratoga Springs currently enjoying some of the best weather of the meet, there won’t be anything from the weather side of things to spark a biased surface.
In other words, with no rain in the local forecast for several days, a fair main track at Saratoga through Travers weekend seems like a fair assumption. And that is a good thing because no one wants the kind of races that are part of Saratoga’s Saturday Breeders’ Cup-like card decided on a biased race track.
