There are three scratches on the 7-race card that begins at 6:00 p. m. Pacific.
Race 2: (2) Dat Day
Race 3: (1) Russian Thrill and (5) Aurora d'Oro
There is a $22,352 carryover in the Pick 5 which begins on the second race. Management would love to see the Pick 5 carryover to Saturday when the Grade 3, $150,000 Grade 3 British Columbia Derby headlines a stellar 10-race card. The derby is supported by five stakes including the $100,000 B.C. Oaks, $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity, and the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity. It is by far the best card of the year at Hastings.
It could carryover, because it is a tough sequence that begins with a maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds. Four of the eight horses entered are trained by Craig MacPherson. He said this morning he was leaning towards (7) Purple Storm. It is a wide-open event, though, as are most of the races tonight.
A ticket could be built around (3) Got My Mo in race 3. He is dropping to a new low in the $4K n2L and will appreciate the significantly easier company after trying to keep up to Papa Papa Papa who is one of the favorites in the first race, a $35,000 optional-claimer with second level allowance conditions. Got My Mo will have to deal with other speed, particularly (7) Great Blake who can fire fresh and has been working well for trainer Rob Maybin who claimed him for $8,000 on July 15.
It is a pleasant 73 degrees and the track is fast.
