Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard on Tuesday night shipped his Pennsylvania-bred filly Rose Tree to Presque Isle Downs, where she will be the likely favorite in the $100,000 HBPA Stakes on Thursday evening.
Sheppard had cross-entered her in Saturday's $100,000 Plum Pretty, a 1 1/16-mile main-track race at Parx. Rose Tree is the 8-5 favorite in a field of nine statebred fillies at Parx and the 5-2 choice in the open HBPA, a mile and 70-yard race which has a full field of 12, plus two also-eligibles.
"We think she likes the Tapeta at Presque Isle," Sheppard said Wednesday morning,"and she's already won several Pennsylvania-bred stakes, so we wanted to try and get her an open-stakes win."
Rose Tree, a 4-year-old daughter of Harlan's Holiday is five for 11 with $291,000 in earnings. She is two for two this year since returning from a six month layoff, having won the Northern Fling at Presque Isle in July and the off-the-turf Mrs. Penny at Parx on Sept. 1.
