MIND CONTROL, the G1 Hopeful winner who was listed as the 7-2 M/L favorite in a full field of 14 2yos in the G1 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity today at Keeneland, has been scratched by trainer Greg Sacco after coming down with a temperature yesterday.
Rick Sacco, Greg's brother and assistant, told Kee publicity this morning that the colt had a 102 temp (about 100 is normal) yesterday morning, and when re-checked later in the day, still had the 102. He said veterinarians then treated him, precluding him from running today, adding the nature of the illness is not believed to be serious.
Rick Sacco said Mind Control is booked on a Tex Sutton flight early Sunday to return to his Monmouth Park base, where the Stay Thirsty colt will resume training at the appropriate time toward the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
A field of 13 remains in the 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Futurity.
Mind Control was to be ridden by John Velazquez, who still has 4 other mounts on a rich 11-race card headed by the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile (R10). Another scheduled Velazquez mount, HOLDING GOLD, has been scratched from the Woodford (R6).
Owned by a partnership led by the Red Oak Stable of the Brunetti family, Mind Control won the 7-furlong Hopeful on Sept. 3 at Saratoga in his first stakes attempt and third start overall.
