Catalina Cruiser, the undefeated winner of two graded stakes at the Del Mar summer meeting, worked six furlongs in 1:12.80 at Santa Anita on Sunday. Trained by John Sadler, Catalina Cruiser is set to start in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3.
Catalina Cruiser's time was the second-fastest of 10 at the distance. California Journey was timed in 1:12.
In other notable works, City of Light and Battle of Midway, two other contenders for the BC Dirt Mile, had workouts.
City of Light, the winner of the Oaklawn Handicap in April, ran five furlongs in 59 seconds, the fastest of 87 works at the distance. Battle of Midway, who won the 2017 BC Dirt Mile, worked five furlongs in 1:00.20. He is winless in two starts this year, since being put back in training following a failed stud career earlier this year.
Sadler worked two other Breeders' Cup hopefuls. Catapult, the winner of two grass stakes at Del Mar worked five furlongs in 59.60 seconds for the BC Mile. Selcourt, a sprint stakes winner earlier this year, worked five furlongs in 1:00.20 for the BC Filly and Mare Sprint.
