Joel Rosario rode Yoshida to victory in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga last time out, but with Rosario committed to Accelerate for the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs, the connections of Yoshida needed a replacement.
They went to a familar face.
Jose Ortiz, who rode Yoshida to victory in the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day earlier this year, and who was aboard Yoshida for his fifth-place finish in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, will be reunited with the horse, trainer Bill Mott said Wednesday.
"He won a Grade 1 on him in the spring and rode him at Royal Ascot," Mott said from his barn at Saratoga. "He knows him and he's ridden him."
More on all that and all the rest of the Breeders' Cup Classic news to be posted later at www.drf.com, which is where updates on every Breeders' Cup race will be found today from our team of writers.
