Ohio-bred standout Mo Dont No candidate for Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile

Mo Dont No, who is an Ohio-bred standout, could be headed for the Breeders' Cup. Owner Ron Paolucci said Monday that the horse is under serious consideration for the Grade 1, $1 million Dirt Mile on Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs.

"We're probably going to go in that spot and if not we could go in the Cigar Mile," he said.

The Grade 1, $750,000 Cigar Mile Handicap will be run Dec. 1 at Aqueduct.

Mo Dont No won the $150,000 Best of Ohio Endurance for the third year in a row Saturday. The race was run at Thistledown.

"He's never raced outside of Ohio - beaten everybody inside of Ohio," Paolucci said. "Probably the best race he ever ran was against [Grade 2 winner] Awesome Banner at Mahoning Valley [in the $200,000 Steel Valley Sprint]. He rises to the level of horses he runs against."

Mo Dont No was a 12-length winner of the Best of Ohio Endurance on Saturday for trainer Jeffrey Radosevich. The race was run over a mile and a quarter. It was Mo Dont No's second win from seven starts in 2018.

"The first part of the year he got sick on me, then he caught a quarter." Paolucci said. "He finally got right going into the Best of Ohio."

Paolocci said Mo Dont No would probably remain in Ohio and ship to Churchill Downs in time to have one breeze over the track before the Dirt Mile. The horse will soon be based at Mahoning Valley.

"He's pretty fit. He doesn't need a lot," Paolucci said. "I toyed with the idea of running him on the turf, in the [Breeders' Cup] Mile. He's so well-bred for it. We'll see how that race looks. That's a small possibility."

As for a rider, Paolucci said it will be someone familiar with Mo Dont No.

"I want somebody who knows this horse, knows how good he is," he said. "Obviously he's a longshot coming  from Ohio."

Scott Spieth rode Mo Dont No in the Best of Ohio Endurance on Saturday, but he is scheduled to be on vacation, said Paolucci. He said Luis Colon is one of the leading candidates to ride the horse in the Breeders' Cup.

Mo Dont No is a 5-year-old son of Uncle Mo and Lilah, a Grade 3 winner who earned more than $500,000. Mo Dont No has won 17 of 28 starts and earned $848,080.
