The main track is fast at Laurel Park today for Maryland Million and the five turf races on the card will stay on the grass, according to Sal Sinatra, president of the Maryland Jockey Club.
There were some light shows overnight but the track received less than a tenth of an inch, according to Sinatra. It’s cloudy right now but the forecast calls for clearing skies and high temperatures in the mid-60s.
Laurel used its turf course Friday for the first time since Oct. 4. The grass was listed as “good” and yielded slow times with the four one-mile races going between 1:39 and 1:41.
Two of the seven Maryland Million stakes are scheduled on turf. The Ladies is at 1 1/8 miles and the Turf is one mile. Three starter handicaps are also scheduled to be run over the course.
Maryland was inundated with rain in September and for the year has received 18 inches more precipitation than the historical average.
